Look and You Will Find

Sometimes I have a tendency to write as if I landed squarely in 18th century America. Not sure what puts me there. Possibly this tendency to escape once in a while, looking for something pure and untapped. Something to swallow up, engulf, and destroy in some beautiful, cathartic way. Something to learn, wholly, and then share with anyone willing to listen. This morning’s delights were those of the Sacred Harp. http://pitchfork.tv/week/awake-my-soul-the-story-of-the-sacred-harp/chapter-1

It’s so true this idea of the human voice being revered for all the pure potential and beauty it can convey. I feel that often we forget that this is the most basic and powerful instrument we have. It gets lost on people so easily. When is the last time you went out and heard someone just sing, nothing accompanying them. It rarely happens outside of a church, and even then it is often rare to find people singing a cappella.

So today go out and sing. Just sing when you walk down the street. Hum a tune, sing out loud for the person walking next to you, and the other guy standing on the opposite corner. Ask your neighbor if they’d like to sing a song with you, and we’ll all come home happier at the end of the day.

“Look and You will Find”

oh look, look ahead
bring all your thoughts here
this place will tell you volumes of light
and all those that come here will tell you
look and you will find

oh too many fools have missed it
washed up on the other side
keeping ears closed and looking the other way
trying in vain to hide

walking the long road ahead
long and winding paths to find
someone told me to veer away
i stumbled on this place and lost my mind

look, look ahead
bring all your thoughts here
this place will tell you volumes of light
and all those that come here will tell you
look and you will find

“help me find your heart”
said this place to a new man
“help me find your heart”

look, look ahead
bring all your thoughts here
this place will tell you volumes of light
and all those that come here will tell you
look and you will find
